in Shrewsbury A Shrewsbury market trader has set the wheels in motion for a new bike hire service which will officially launch next week.

Urban Bikes UK, run by Phil Roe, will be offering rental cycles from just £14 per half day hire (up to 3 hours) and £20 for a full day (up to 7 hours).

All hires include route maps and wet weather ponchos. Helmets are available to rent at a charge of £1 per person.

The Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Jon Tandy, will officially launch the service, which is predominantly aimed at tourists, at the Market Hall next Friday [APRIL 4 2014] at 11am.

Urban Bikes UK is also currently working with Shropshire Tourism to develop a cycle tour of Shrewsbury sights, as well as a ‘foodie’ tour to coincide with this year’s Shrewsbury Food Festival.

Phil said: “In the two years we have been at the Market Hall we have received enquiries about bike hire, so it seemed obvious that we could offer this service from a central location. We hope to work with local hotels, B&B's and other venues so they can offer this service to their customers.”
