in Shrewsbury A new exhibition featuring the work of three Shrewsbury artists launches next week at the town’s Market Hall. The Trio exhibit opens on August 7 and runs until August 18 at the Visual Art Network Gallery, on the second floor of the Market Hall.

The collection of work features pieces from Peter Williams, Jane Hunt and Tony Sharpe who are all volunteer tutors at an art workshop group at HMP Shrewsbury.

Peter produces collages, assemblages and mini installations using materials collected during his travels and uses drawing skills to enhance his creations.

Jane is a well-known glass artist. For this exhibition, she has made pieces which are inspired by Auschwitz, and has also included some more decorative items.

Tony paints with acrylics on a variety of themes including landscapes and still life. He will be showing some mono-prints at as part of the exhibit.

The majority of work will be available to purchase.

Tony Sharpe, one of the artists said: “I am one of a group of three tutors (all volunteers) who oversee an Art Workshop group in Her Majesty's Prison Shrewsbury - we have staged exhibitions of the work of our students over the last two years, and, since we ourselves work as artists, we decided this time to exhibit our own work.”

The Market Hall Gallery is open from 10am until 4pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
