British Transport Industry Celebrated at SVR

British Transport Industry Celebrated at SVR The best of British transport’s industrial heritage will be celebrated during an event at the Severn Valley Railway next month.

For most of the 20th century, the British Transport Industry was the main provider of railway locomotives and road vehicles for the UK.

In honour of those manufacturers, the Severn Valley Railway is hosting a Classic Car and Bike Day on Sunday, 13th October, featuring displays of cars of all types at five of its six stations.

The display at Kidderminster will remember manufacturers with a significant anniversary this year, such as Morris Motors’ centenary, the 110th anniversary of Standard cars and the 90th year since Triumph cars first made an appearance on the roads.

At Hampton Loade, there will be a range of historic motorcycles while Highley will feature a collection of vehicles related to the Longbridge motor works, especially Austins both pre and post-Second World War.

Another must-see is a range of luxury cars from many decades ago including several Vintage Rolls-Royces.

Clare Gibbard, SVR’s marketing and communications manager, said: “Our Classic Car and Bike Day is one of the most popular dates in the SVR calendar with enthusiasts and families alike. Visitors can enjoy a steam train journey, hopping on and off at stations  along the line to view the displays of iconic vehicles.

“The event was sorely missed in 2012 but is back this year by popular demand with what promises to be a great line-up of vehicles from yesteryear.

Standard fares apply on this day. For more information and to book tickets, visit the Special Event page at www.svr.co.uk or call 01299 403816.
