A Christmas Carol guided walk

Festive fans of the silver screen have the chance to take part in a guided walk through Shrewsbury demonstrating the town’s links to classic film A Christmas Carol.

Tours will be held on December 17 taking in some of the locations used in the making of the movie, which was filmed on location in Shrewsbury 27 years ago and starred the likes of George C Scott, Frank Finlay and Edward Woodward.

The walks have been organised by Shropshire Council’s tourist information service.

They will pass through all of the areas of the town centre where filming took place, including The Parade and the passageways used in the film.

Councillor Mike Owen, Shropshire Council’s cabinet member for tourism and culture, said: “A Christmas Carol really helped to put Shrewsbury on the map when it was made back in 1984 and continues to help promote the town 27 years later.”

The walks will start at 11am and 2pm, leaving from Shrewsbury Visitor Information Centre at Rowley’s House in Barker Street. Each walk will last for about 90 minutes and tickets are priced at £4 for adults and £2.50 for children aged 16 and under.

Councillor Andrew Bannerman, Shropshire councillor for Quarry and Coton Hill, said: “The film drew the town together and made ingenious use of many locations, some of which were barely known by most Salopians.”

Advance booking is essential, as the walks proved popular last year.
