Our guided tours give you the opportunity to view this historic building and learn more about its history dating back to 1793.
Jailhouse Tours conducts daily guided tours of Shrewsbury prison in small groups (maximum of 30 people) which allows you to experience first-hand what life in a prison would have been like. Each tour lasts approximately 90 minutes and is run by a guide with extensive knowledge of the prison site, and its history.
Once inside you will get to experience what it would have been like as a prisoner entering ‘The Dana’ for the first time, processing through induction before heading out to the wings and into the general population (gen pop). You will get to tour areas never visited by the public before, learn about the prisons history, its inmates, daily life, visitation, prison work and discover more about ‘The Dana’s’ grisly history with executions.
Throughout the tour you can ask questions of our guides and hear stories from the original prison days through to modern times. Visitors will be given the chance to have a ‘Closed Cell’ experience. Which involves entering Cells and having the doors closed behind you, to fully experience what it would have been like for a prisoner.
