Upcoming food courses and offers at Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre! Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, run by local charity Grow Cook Learn has the aim of connecting people to the food, history and landscape of the Shropshire Hills. They now have a pop up kitchen, kindly sponsored by Ludlow Food Festival and are making the most of it with popular cookery courses for adults and children with everything from Cooking with Dinosaurs for children to cooking Sizzling Somosas with adults.

On Thursday 5th October, 10am-2pm, learn to cook delicious Thai Vegetarian Cuisine. Make Thai Curry paste, Papaya Salad and Pad Thai! Sheela Udeshi from Sheela's Kitchen will be sharing her tips and everyday cooking skills with you. You will be preparing mouth watering dishes using ingredients such as: Lemon grass, Coconut milk and Tamarind Ginger. Only £35 per person, booking essential, contact the Centre on 01588676060. Included in the price is a recipe booklet to take away with the food you have made to share your skills at home.

The award winning café at the centre takes pride in producing delicious food with locally sourced ingredients. They offer daily homemade scones for their Shropshire Cream Tea offer. The scones can be served warm, with fresh cream from Mawley Milk Dairy and the jam, which you can also purchase in the gift shop, is sourced from Woodthorpe’s in Herefordshire.

Their selection of soups are all vegetarian and gluten and dairy free, made fresh on the premises, they are a firm favourite with diners. “The butternut squash soup is so yummy and with the bread on the side, it is the perfect amount.”

Alongside jacket potatoes, sandwiches, toasties etc. the café do hot dishes of the day, every day with Monday Meal Deal offers of a main and a dessert for just £10. On Sundays, the tables are dressed for delicious Sunday lunches, meat and vegetarian options available alongside the usual menu. All vegetables are fresh and the meat is all locally sourced from Walls Butchers, just down the road in Craven Arms. The puddings on offer are all fresh and made on the premises with homemade pastries and fruit from the Onny Meadows orchard. Praise from diners include, “The pastry for our apple pie was lovely and you can tell it’s not shop bought, very nice and makes all the difference.”

Entry to the Discovery Centre and Onny Meadows is free but there is a charge for visitors to enjoy our Shropshire Hills Through Time exhibition and visit our mammoth. The Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre offers an extensive programme of family events, adult courses and a variety of activities for the whole family. The unique grass roofed building houses a replica of the famous mammoth skeleton found in Shropshire. The café serves delicious home-cooked food.
