1st-31st August 2012, 11.00am-12.30pm and 2.00pm-3.30pm, Small participation fee applies.
From 6th-10th August there will be an Olympics theme to the week where children will be able to make their very own medal and super sports foam bookmark. Everyone will be a winner with these fun foam medals which come complete with glitter decorations and coloured ribbon. The colourful sporty character bookmarks will ensure you keep up with your reading and will make the perfect Olympics souvenir for any child.
The second week of August Activities will be dedicated to gliders. Running from 13th-17th, children will have the opportunity to make and colour in their own aeroplane and butterfly gliders and test how well they fly. Children can give their gliders a ‘flying start’ by creating a colourful design. These easy to assemble gliders come in a variety of designs to choose from.
From the 20th-24th August, if you’re looking for something exciting to entertain the children, the Museum is inviting families to participate in a fun model making activity. Visitors will have the opportunity to build an Airfix 1:72 Spitfire in a communal and fun atmosphere. You don’t have to be a skilled modeller to take part as staff will be there to lend a hand and to ensure visitors get the most from their modelling. All materials including glue, paints and brushes will be provided by the Museum.
From 28th-31st August the theme for the week will be back to school where children can decorate and personalise a traditional wooden pencil box. The box has a sliding lid where children can keep all their stationary for school in a safe place. Give your box a modern twist with a funky design and decorate it with some cool stickers or personalise it with your name spelt out in foam letters.
For each of the activities, participants will get to take their creations home as a memento of the day. A trail will also run at weekends and on bank holiday Monday, keeping the children entertained everyday throughout August.
The Museum is a day out that everyone will enjoy whatever the weather, with plenty to keep the whole family entertained. Children and adults alike will be fascinated by fun ‘n’ flight. This free interactive area is packed with hands on excitement; it’s the easy way to answer all those questions about how planes stay up in the air. Whether you’re testing your ability to fly a plane or guiding a Hercules to a drop zone, you will be learning, improving your co-ordination and most importantly of all having a great time.
A small participation fee applies for each of the activities to cover the costs of materials. To participate in any of the events taking place this August, please purchase your ticket from the Admissions Desk on arrival. For further information on August Activities and other events taking place at the RAF Museum in 2012, please contact the Museum on 01902 376200 or visit www.rafmuseum.org. The Museum is open daily from 10am – 6pm. Entry to the Museum is FREE.
