The Shrewsbury Christmas Chorus is a joint initiative organised by Destination Shrewsbury, a partnership organisation including Shrewsbury Town Council, Shropshire Council, Shop in the Loop, Shrewsbury Business Chamber and Shrewsbury Tourism Association.
The event, on November 24, will bring six choirs into the town to perform a festive repertoire at four locations; The Square, St Mary’s and St Alkmund’s churchyards and at the top of Mardol.
Choirs signed up to take part include; Trinity Primary School, Halfway House Ladies Choir, Bayston Hill Singers, Heart & Soul Community Choir, Crowmoor Primary School and St Chad’s Church Choir.
Performances will start at 6pm, following a welcome and introduction by the Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Kath Owen, and Town Crier, Martin Wood.
The event coincides with the first evening of late night shopping and the Christmas lights switch on.
John Hall, Destination Shrewsbury board member said: “We have some great choirs taking part in the Christmas Chorus and there will be performances throughout the evening, from 6pm until around 8.30pm. It will spread festive cheer and a real sense of Christmas around the town. The shops will be open late, and there will be a great competition for everyone in town on the night, so there will be plenty to see and do all evening.”
