UK marathon man Brian Parker hopes to raise £50,000 for a hospice with his staggering cross country journey which will see him race from Much Wenlock to Bishops Castle in one of the 12 legs before heading for Herefordshire.
The three star 18 bedroomed Wroxeter Hotel between Telford and Shrewsbury in Shropshire countryside overlooking The Wrekin volunteered to put him up for the night free of charge followed by one of its award winning breakfast’s as recognised by the English tourist board.
Wroxeter Hotel director Margot Foster said they readily agreed to helping Brian’s charity event. They were ready for his arrival when hotel staff greeted him with an ice bath to help repair his aching muscles.
“It was a pleasure to help Brian out as he is so selfless. We gave him a four poster bed with bath so he would have a relaxing night. His back up driver was also given a lovely hotel room as well. We wish them well in this amazing charity run.”
Brian, a publican from Lancashire, said: “For the whole trip I’ve managed to get about five or six free nights for myself and my driver who will follow me in the car. Shropshire’s Wroxeter Hotel has been great and I looked forward very much to the ice bath when I arrives. I’m hoping to get ice in every hotel to help repair my muscles.”
Brian (52), began his charity challenge in Cheshire and was intending to run across Staffordshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire before finishing the last of his 312 miles at Burnley Town Hall on Saturday, May 28.
Four days after he finishes he will be going into hospital for a serious operation on his knee.
“I’ve had a bad knee for a while. The doctors have basically told me not to do it but the way I look at it is that if I do it and it does make it worse at least I’m having the operation straight after the marathons. There is no way I won’t finish it.
“If need be I will walk, hop or crawl. I even have some crutches with me just in case.”
