HORSING AROUND AT SHREWSBURY CAFÉ A Shrewsbury café will play host to a different type of animal than it is used to for a special one-off event later this month. Victor Deng and Aaron Brown will be welcoming some guests of the equestrian kind to the Bird’s Nest Café, at Shrewsbury Market Hall, for a virtual race night.

The charity horse-racing event is being held on June 30 in aid of Self Help Africa.

The evening kicks-off at 4pm and will run until 9pm.

Eight pre-recorded races will be shown throughout the evening and customers can reserve a table or stand and enjoy food and drinks including local ales and ciders.

The race night is being co-ordinated by Projection events.

Josh Arrowsmith, one of the event organisers said: “If you’re feeling the pinch financially then let us bring the races to you! We want to give our customers the chance to experience the races like they would at Newmarket or Ascot but from the very heart of our indoor market. We really feel this is going to be a great success and lots of fun. Hopefully everyone will dress up and really get into the spirit of the event and help raise funds for Self Help Africa.”

elf Help Africa works with rural communities to help them improve their farms and livelihoods.

The charity’s mission is to empower rural Africa to achieve economic independence by supporting communities to grow more food, diversify their farm production, develop new off-farm enterprise, and sell their surpluses.
