Date: 16-20 February 2015
Time: 11.30am to 3.30pm
Cost: £3.00 per person. Admission to Museum FREE
Children can choose from either an Airfix 1:72 Sopwith Pup or an Airfix 1:72 Albatross and will build their models alongside the full sized aircraft on display at the Museum in a communal and fun atmosphere. Suitable for children aged 8+, you don't have to be a skilled modeller to take part as staff will be there to lend a hand and to ensure visitors get the most from their modelling. Plus, if you need a little inspiration as to how to paint your Airfix model, take a look at the real Sopwith Pup on display in the new 'First World War in the Air' exhibition.
If building an Airfix kit is too fiddly for your little ones, families with younger children can opt to assemble and decorate a wooden biplane. Each kit contains pre-cut wooden pieces, plastic screw and easy to follow instructions. To give your wooden kit the wow factor, the Museum will provide all the colours and accessories needed to help personalise your model.
Not only do participants get to take their models home, this year organisers are giving all model makers the chance to win an Airfix prize bundle worth over £75. Packed with everything any young modeller could wish for including three Airfix sets with accessories, a quick build Apache helicopter, Airfix notebook and a 2015 RAF Museum teddy bear. All you need to do to be in with a chance of winning is 'Like' the Museum on Facebook and upload a photo of your completed Airfix or wooden kit to our page. A winner will be selected from the photo entries on Monday 23rd February and the prize will be posted out so you can continue the model making fun at home. So if you think you can build the perfect Airfix kit or give your model the most creative makeover, we want to hear from you!
RAF Museum Cosford Public Events Manager Abi Betteridge said:
"Model Making is one of our most popular activities and one that parents and grandparents love getting involved with too. This year we have decided to offer both Airfix kits and wooden kits so that children of all ages can take part in the half term fun. All modellers get to take their creations home as a memento of the day and if they choose to upload a photo of their design to our Facebook page, they could be in with a chance of winning a fantastic prize full of model making goodies."
To participate in the model making activity taking place this February Half Term, please purchase your ticket from the Visitor Centre on arrival. The event will take place in the Museum's Hangar 1 next to the famous 1:1 scale Airfix model Spitfire built by TV Presenter James May. Sessions will run from 11.30am to 3.30pm each day and participation is just £3.00 per person. All materials including glue, paints and brushes will be provided by the Museum. (Children will need to be supervised by an adult and may require assistance with the model making.) All participants will receive a 10% discount voucher to use on plastic model kits for sale in the souvenir shop.
To enter the competition, hit 'Like' and upload a photo of your completed model kit to the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford Facebook page before 23rd February 2015.
For further information about the Museum, please visit the Museum website www.rafmuseum.org or call 01902 376200. The Museum is open daily from 10am and entry to the Museum is FREE of charge.
