Mr & Mrs Hunt from Glamorgan, South Wales, stayed in the Dickens suite at The Lion Hotel last week, and praised staff for being extremely “helpful and pleasant”. Commenting further, Mr Hunt said, “The hotel was excellent and the Dickens suite was wonderful. The food was delicious. We shall surely return in the future.”
Mr Hunt added, “Shrewsbury was quite a surprise actually. The street names were very interesting and amusing. There was an excellent choice of shops, which pleased my wife no end. We both enjoyed wandering around the streets and finding new little shops that sold an array of items. The choice of cafes and coffee shops was vast, and each one was busy with a good selection to choose from especially cakes (that pleased me!!). We enjoyed a walk along the river and saw quite a bit of wildlife. We look forward to coming back to try the river boat Sabrina and to visit The Dingle in full bloom.”
Claire Owen from Shropshire Tourism thanked The Lion Hotel for offering the prize and said, “We are extremely pleased to hear that Mr & Mrs Hunt enjoyed their stay in Shrewsbury. This glowing testimonial just goes to show how much the town has to offer visitors.”
The competition to win one night's stay at The Lion ran on The Guardian website between August and September last year and resulted in over 630 entries. Shropshire Tourism has taken the opportunity to email all of those who didn’t win with a special offer to stay 3 nights for the price of 2 at The Lion, to encourage more visitors to come to Shrewsbury.
Howard Astbury, owner of The Lion said, “We were delighted to offer this prize and work with Shropshire Tourism, The Guardian and VisitEngland.”
