Family Fun Day at St Mary's Church

Family Fun Day at St Mary's Church Come along on the 6th September between 10.30am and 4.00pm and discover a new experience at St Mary’s in the centre of Shrewsbury, the country’s first Conservation Church.

Every Conservation Church has a story to tell and during the family fun day will be able to meet some of the characters and hear the stories which have left their mark on this ancient building.

New resources will help visitors uncover the past, with family activities, trails, children’s explorer packs and snatches of medieval conversations. Living history re-enactors Les Miles des Marches and the Mannered Mob will bring St Mary’s past to life so should you wish to gossip to a Georgian lady, natter with a Norman soldier or just go on your own quest of discovery - we have it all waiting for you. Younger church explorers will especially enjoy the special children’s area, with a dressing up box and sessions on how to write with a quill with Kelly, our Heritage Learning Officer.

Sign up for a tour with one of the crew of volunteers who will be on hand to make sure you don’t miss a thing! When it’s time to take a break why not browse in the new gift shop or try The Café at St Mary’s run by 1403 farm shop and deli at Battlefield. The café has a fine selection of drinks and delicious light lunches locally sourced and from the Albrighton estate. So come along and discover St Mary’s past and future!

St Mary’s is now open seven days a week. Please check for information or contact Robert Milton Tel 01743 357006

This project is an initiative of The Churches Conservation Trust, the national charity that owns St Mary’s church, and has been made possible through a substantial grant of almost £100,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The Churches Conservation Trust (CCT) protects historic churches at risk and has saved over 340 buildings; there are 9 in Shropshire. All CCT churches are Grade II* or above and hold the key to much of our history; they are open and ready for visitors all year round.
