Charity Gardeners Question Time Hailed a Success

Charity Gardeners Question Time Hailed a Success A charity evening which included a tour of the Apley Walled Garden followed by “Gardeners’ Question Time” with a panel of experts compered by BBC’s Paul Shuttleworth was rated a huge success by organisers and guests alike.

The event was arranged by the Rotary Club of Telford Centre and hosted by Lord and Lady Hamilton, owners of the Apley Estate & Apley Farm Shop.

Chris Mackrell Telford Rotary Club President said: “ We are delighted that this event had such a good turnout and seemed to be enjoyed by everyone. Our thanks go to Lord & Lady Hamilton our hosts and supporters of the event. Thanks also go to our main sponsors Nock Deighton Country Homes; MFA and Addison Wines and to our panel of experts led by Chelsea Gold Medallist David Wassell MBE.

We have raised over £1,000 towards Rotary International’s campaign to eradicate polio from the world, enough to provide vaccine for thousands of children.”

Lady Hamilton continued “ The panellists were given some tough questions and the audience received some very interesting and informative answers. I am delighted that we at Apley have managed to contribute to such an important campaign, the eradication of polio.

We should really take our hats off, not just to Telford Centre but all Rotary Clubs whose members work so hard throughout the year raising funds for so many worthy causes.

The rain mostly held off and visitors seemed to enjoy the Apley Walled Garden tour enormously and learned a great deal about its history and what we are hoping to achieve through its rennaissance, especially in supplying Apley Farm Shop with fresh local produce.”

Guest Debbie Greenough said: “We travelled here from Wem and thoroughly enjoyed the evening; Apley Walled Garden was fascinating, a really special place; the panel were extremely knowledgable and it was all in aid of charity - marvellous!”
