Come along to the Blitz Hill event dressed in period civilian costume and experience the entertainment, music and activities of the day as the Victorian town travels four decades into the ‘future’.
This family event is a chance for younger visitors to discover about the past and for those who remember the war years to reminisce and share their memories.
Discover how people made the most of food rationing in the shops and cottages and sample a free ration of kali. There’s no need to worry that you’ll be hungry, as there will be plentiful supplies of delicious spam fritters for you to buy from the Town’s Fried Fish Dealers and beer to purchase in the New Inn Public House during the evening.
The blackout has been lifted for one night only; see red-hot iron being poured in the foundry; listen to the brass band playing 1940s music; meet wartime characters including the ARP warden and the WVS leader; see vintage vehicles and steam engines and join the Home Guard for their drill.
During the evening you can watch a nostalgic Variety Show in the impressive ironworks in the style of the hugely popular ‘BBC Workers Playtime’ that toured factories and workplaces all over the country boosting the spirit and camaraderie of the nation.
Tickets to Blitz Hill must be purchased in advance either online (www.ironbridge.org.uk) , from Blists Hill Victorian Town or the Ironbridge Visitor Information Centre. Tickets are priced at £9.50 for adults and seniors, £6 children aged 3-15 years and £26.50 for a family (two adults and two children); under 3s free. All under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
